Pomme Photo Shoot Day – DUMBO, Brooklyn
I had the best time working with Ria and her colleagues at Pomme! We teamed up to create a photo day for Pomme’s loyal clients, who each received a mini-photo shoot with minimum purchase.

When I put together the Sawyers‘ 3D reel, I was sensitive to making sure the photos worked in the format. It was a new and tricky procedure to shoot in stereo, as the subject of the photo needed to be relatively centered in not one but *two* slightly different frames. With moving child and baby chick subjects, not to mention the added complexity of shooting on a telephoto lens (had to be further back from the action than I’d normally prefer), shooting in 3D had me stretching my compositional and timing skills to the max.
As I kid, I loved looking at Disney World images in 3D — pointing my viewer at a light-source, and experience the very satisfying CA-chunk, as I pressed the handle to move the reel.
Now, I’m shooting in 3D and offering my clients the same satisfaction. Only instead of rides and attractions, my reels feature 3D images of your own kids (or your own wedding)! If you’re a child of the 80s, or just love the 80s, this custom 3D viewer is for you. Kids will love viewing their own photo shoot come to life in 3D!
My photography colleague, Scott Meivogel, at Aperture photo shop has a mantra: “Analog is a lifestyle.” Scott sells the coolest array of old Polaroids, vintage cameras, and film stock, and he’s been inspiring me to experiment more with film — something I have always loved.
In fact, speaking with Scott recently inspired me to pull out some of my old favorite analog shots from years past: I’ve shot tons of analog photos of kids and weddings on assignment, travel shots of Paris, Rome, and New York, and more.
It’s official! My final days of shooting in Brooklyn and Manhattan [for awhile, at least] are coming up fast. The last day for booking with me is August 29th, and I am working hard to make myself available to everyone who would like a shoot before that day.
It was recently brought to my attention that we humans have a dominant eye – the eye our visual center defaults to, with the other creating our 3-dimensional sense around the first. This seems like common sense, if you’ve ever laid in bed staring at a pillow up close, closing one eye, and then the other. One eye gives a perspective that seems utterly disorienting from when you had both open – the other is just about what you expected.
