3D Sample Reel Has Arrived

When I put together the Sawyers‘ 3D reel, I was sensitive to making sure the photos worked in the format.  It was a new and tricky procedure to shoot in stereo, as the subject of the photo needed to be relatively centered in not one but *two* slightly different frames.  With moving child and baby chick subjects, not to mention the added complexity of shooting on a telephoto lens (had to be further back from the action than I’d normally prefer), shooting in 3D had me stretching my compositional and timing skills to the max.

Cleveland Wedding

I don’t often post weddings to this site (in fact, I have a whole separate wedding blog, if you’re interested: click here), but this one was very special to me because it was my dear cousin’s.  Actually, I had the honor of being a bridesmaid that day, as well as the privilege of photographing my gorgeous cousin and her handsome groom for their portrait session after the ceremony.

Thank You, New York

It’s been 9.5 years since I relocated to New York City.  I’ve had amazing opportunities to work with gifted people on films, film festivals, photo shoots, advertisements, and TV shows.  I’ve collaborated with amazing artists, actors, actresses, and musicians.  I’ve had the honor of photographing dozens and dozens of couples and families.  It’s been quite a journey from exploring all that New York had to offer me in the entertainment industry, to launching my business as a wedding photographer, to transitioning to a thriving family, baby, and child photography specialty.

I have been literally bombarded with inspiration here, from my peers, from my competitors, from my mentors.  I am bursting with new ideas, including new mediums, new ways of expression, new services to offer my clients, and new services that will serve the needs of new clients.

Modern technology is fascinating in its speed of evolution, out-dating itself faster than ever before. Even as I upgrade my professional photographic equipment, noticing how much faster and better-quality-producing cameras have become, I find myself enamored with how something as small as an iPhone can produce creative results.

All of the images in this blog post were created on my iPhone, using a variety of vintage-inspired photo apps, like Instagram and Hipstamatic.  What I love about iPhoneography is the ability to record inspiring visuals as they appear, while going about my day, while traveling, or when taking a break from my desk to create still lifes in the living room.  The ease of creating unexpected results gives my inner artist the thrill of play, while inspiring new work, at the same time.

Ohio Countryside

Although I have had the chance to spend some time in Ohio every summer since I left at age 17, I never cease to be mesmerized by its magic that time of year.  The landscape is so incredibly lush and green, and the days seem so long with the sun setting around 9.30 p.m. at the solstice.  If I could take photos of the fragrance of summer in Ohio, that would truly be the way to encapsulate it.  But these photos will have to suffice to conjure the scents of evergreens, honeysuckle, and green grass wafting in the fresh air.
