San Francisco’s Noe Valley children’s theater, The Rabbit Hole, invited me to capture “Time Travel Camp.” The kids rehearsed, prepared backdrops, got their faces painted, had a lunch break outside, and got ready for the show. Using the time machine they built, the groups of “scientists” counted down to blast off to other worlds, expressed in dance. Have a peek at all the fun!

A mom-and-baby mini session is a pretty precious Mother’s Day idea, in case you’re wondering how to spend the day. Here’s some inspiration from Kite Hill – a tiny little park tucked into Noe Valley overlooking downtown San Francisco. I like finding spots not everyone has seen for especially unique photography. Even locals don’t know about this hidden spot!
Families can document their vacation with a photo session on location, like this one in San Francisco. It’s fun to capture the dynamic between siblings, especially when they’re in the midst of exploring new sites. A photo session can be a great excuse to plan a staycation in your hometown, too. Bring the kids to check out a part of town you haven’t seen in awhile, and get all the fun on film.

Nine months is the absolute best age for a baby portrait – so many smiles! From about 8-10 months, babies start to engage a lot more, but conveniently, it’s before they’re walking so they’re not able to run out of the photo session. It’s a great time for close-up portrait and capturing your baby in your favorite spot, as well.
If you’re a brave enough parent to sign the waiver at the entrance, Berkeley’s Adventure Playground puts giant smiles on courageous kids’ faces. They get to explore all kinds of ramshackle structures, roll in tubes, and ride the zip line. Incredible photo opps abound.

After I broke free from the enchantment of Ann Arbor, Michigan, shortly after graduating with a BA in film from the University of Michigan, I soon found myself under the spell of New York City. The sense of “place,” has always had a big impact on me – not just in terms of a location and its architecture and infrastructure – but perhaps even more in terms of its people and what feels like common thoughts bouncing around in the air.
It’s not every summer that I get a chance to lay by the proverbial pool, but this summer I spent 3 days in Miami — doesn’t get hotter than that! I took laying by the pool quite literally. Admittedly, the first time I went to Fisherman’s Wharf was when I was seeking an In-n-Out burger. I had heard of the place, but the New Yorker in me assumed it would have something in common with Times Square — mostly a tourist attraction, possibly annoying to navigate, etc. In other words, something you endure to see a Broadway show, or obtain fries and a vanilla shake, as the case may be. If I wasn’t already a farm-stand snob, Five Marys has made it official. When I lived in NYC and I had the occasion to rent a car and drive upstate or across Long Island in the summer, I fell in love with stopping alongside the road in the fresh air and buying directly from local farmers.
