Rebecca, from Kids Can Groove, features all the best kindie music with a thoughtful approach. If you read her blog, you will love how inspired she gets by the music, and find there is an entire universe of great music for kids that parents won’t loathe.
Shooting crisp, vibrant digital photos for clients day in and day out sometimes makes me crave a more raw, dark, vibe-y feel. I like watching indie films and listening to indie music, finding inspiration in the sense of being on the edge of something, admiring the unpolished and the perfectly flawed.
Whenever I travel, I take some plastic cameras along with experimental films like the Lomo Redscale film stock I used in my Holga in this series of photos in Europe over the course of the past several months. These images are a pretty stark contrast to the bright family portraits I’ve been taking in California lately. Their moodiness reflects some of that indie feel I admire in other mediums.
Admittedly, the first time I went to Fisherman’s Wharf was when I was seeking an In-n-Out burger. I had heard of the place, but the New Yorker in me assumed it would have something in common with Times Square — mostly a tourist attraction, possibly annoying to navigate, etc. In other words, something you endure to see a Broadway show, or obtain fries and a vanilla shake, as the case may be. Winter isn’t the most obvious time for a family photo session, but after the holiday craziness dies down, a lot of families find it easier to schedule. Many of my clients opted to send photo Valentines this year, if they failed to make the Christmas and New Year’s cards deadlines. In case you’re worried about pink noses and making layers work, I put together three concepts for inspiration from photo sessions I did in France this winter that prove it to be a wonderfully creative season for a shoot.
