One of my favorite Oakland spots is in the Temescal neighborhood — two alleyways that used to be rows of carriage houses, called Temescal Alleys. The stalls are now filled with the best boutiques, ice cream, donuts, and espresso all in one gorgeous place.
A question I get asked a lot is whether a mini session can really be enough time to get good photos.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that kids have an opinion and a personality from day 1. Even little babies like this one seem to convey their sense of things in their attitude and in their expressions.
What’s my recipe for a successful family photo shoot? Hope for good weather, find a location that suits the family, and leave space for that je-ne-sais-quoi to swoop in and complete the magic.
San Francisco’s Noe Valley children’s theater, The Rabbit Hole, invited me to capture “Time Travel Camp.” The kids rehearsed, prepared backdrops, got their faces painted, had a lunch break outside, and got ready for the show. Using the time machine they built, the groups of “scientists” counted down to blast off to other worlds, expressed in dance. Have a peek at all the fun!

A mom-and-baby mini session is a pretty precious Mother’s Day idea, in case you’re wondering how to spend the day. Here’s some inspiration from Kite Hill – a tiny little park tucked into Noe Valley overlooking downtown San Francisco. I like finding spots not everyone has seen for especially unique photography. Even locals don’t know about this hidden spot!
